Advent is a season of waiting. It’s a time to remember who we are as people longing for our Savior. It’s an invitation to look back at the centuries of God’s presence in our lives, and His promise to send a Messiah to bring us to the Promised Land of eternal life in his heavenly kingdom. We wait in joyful hope for the coming of our savior, Jesus Christ.
This Advent, join your parish family for evening prayer, also known as vespers. Vespers, or Evening Prayer, is the evening service of the Catholic Church, part of the official public prayer known as the Liturgy of the Hours. It is prayed as dusk falls to give thanks for the day, reflect on God’s presence, and offer an evening sacrifice of praise through hymns, psalms, scripture, and the Magnificat. The service is a universal prayer of the Church that offers peace and guidance for the evening and night ahead.
This time of prayer will include music and silent adoration of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
Amid the hustle and bustle that the culture insists is a necessary part of this season, take some time to pause, reflect, worship and adore the One whom we await.
