Journey with the Word and Deacon Mark

August 7, 2025

Parishioners of all ages are invited to explore the Sunday Gospel reading with Deacon Mark while walking in a local Medina County park.

These walks are designed to be low-impact and suitable for all ages. They will take place every second and fourth Saturday between March and November at 8:30 a.m. (should be finished by 9:30-10 a.m.)
Week 2, July 26, is at Mugrage Park. Join our Flocknote group to we’ll let you know where we’ll be journeying together next.

Click the button above to receive notifications about upcoming events, or email Deacon Mark at mtomecko@sfxmedina.org to be added to the list.

Each walk will include quiet time with the Gospel and optional sharing. Here’s our general rhythm:

  1. Opening Prayer & Gospel Reading – Sunday’s Gospel will be read aloud and handed out on paper
  2. First Segment – Silent walk (approx. 3/4-1 mile), meditating on the Gospel, listening for a word, phrase, or image that stands out
  3. First Stop – Optional sharing of that word, phrase, or image
  4. Second Segment – Listening for how God might be speaking to you through the Gospel
  5. Second Stop – Optional brief sharing
  6. Third Segment – Asking how God is inviting you to live, pray, act, or think differently
  7. Final Stop & Closing Prayer – Final chance to share; then we’ll close with prayer

Other than the first segment (which is silent), you’re welcome to walk and talk with a partner during the others if you’d like.

Children Welcome!

Children are more than welcome to join!
We’ll offer age-appropriate reflections or simple challenges to help them engage with the Gospel at their level.

A Note About Pets

Because some parks do not allow animals and not all walkers may be comfortable around dogs, we kindly ask that you do not bring dogs on our walks.

Our Schedule

We will meet every second and fourth Saturday at 8:30 AM, now through the end of November. Next year, we’ll go from March to November.
We will rotate among different Medina County parks to enjoy the natural beauty all around us!

RSVP

If you know you’re planning to come, feel free to RSVP—it helps with planning and allows me to watch for you at the park.
That said, there’s absolutely no need to RSVP to attend—you’re always welcome to just show up! And if you RSVP but need to back out at the last minute, no need to let me know—we understand things come up.
